The AMMP Section is the largest section in the department with over 30 permanent staff and about 50 postdoctoral researchers including several on Fellowships (NERC), Junior Research and Chapman Fellowships. The Section also has a large number of PhD students working on all areas of applied mathematics but also in the EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) in Fluid Dynamics Across Scales and the Mathematics for Planet Earth. In addition to the PhD Programme, the Section also offers an MSc in Applied Mathematics with a wide selection of courses and research projects.
The AMMP Section conducts research of the highest quality and has strengths in several interconnected areas of applied mathematics including Applied and Numerical Analysis, Biomathematics, Dynamical Systems, Fluid Dynamics, and Mathematical Physics. The philosophy of the section is that there are no barriers between these core strengths but instead inter- and intra-disciplinary links are fostered and sustained as evidenced by our track record in collaborations among the groups but also with other departments and centres at Imperial College including Aeronautical Engineering, Computing, Chemical Engineering, the Grantham Institute, Life Sciences, Physics as well as the Medical School. There are also numerous national and international research collaborations.
